Description
A private school for girls is scandalised when one spiteful student accuses the two young women who run the school of having a lesbian relationship...
William Wyler directs this adaptation of the Lillian Hellman play (previously filmed by the director in 1936 as These Three). Karen (Audrey Hepburn) and Martha (Shirely MacLaine) are the headmistresses of an exclusive school for girls. When they discipline a malicious little girl, the vindictive child twists an overheard comment into slander and accuses her teachers of questionable behaviour. Soon the scandalous gossip engulfs the school's community, with repercussions that are swift, crushing and tragic.
