Description

Frankie Muniz reprises his role as teenage CIA agent Cody Banks in this sequel directed by Kevin Allen (The Big Tease, Twin Town). Cody's parents believe that he is having a blissful summer as a helper at sleep-away camp. Little do they know that Kamp Woody is really a secret CIA training camp for kids, and that their sixteen-year old son has been sent to London to track down the camp's director, Diaz (Keith Allen), a demoted agent with a diabolical plot. Diaz is planning to join forces with British aristocrat Lord Duncan Kenworth (James Faulkner) and take control of the world using stolen mind control software implanted in the teeth of world leaders. Dispatched to London to foil Diaz's plan, Banks is provided with an array of cool gadgets, such as explosive Mentos (a mint sweet) and a retainer that doubles as a tracking device, as well as a fully loaded black London cab that James Bond would love. Meanwhile, lovely Emily (S-Club's Hannah Spearitt) from Scotland Yard's teen training division is on the case as well. Anthony Anderson plays Derek, an agent who is assigned to assist Banks during his London adventure.

Agent Cody Banks 2: Destination London Review

The first Agent Cody Banks movie was a surprisingly charming affair with enough amusing set-pieces, silly gadgets and cute gags for any self-respecting Bond spoof. So it's an even greater disappointment that the rushed-into-production second outing for Frankie Muniz's teenage CIA agent is a real dud, with a horrible amount of lame lines and depressingly unfunny British actors shoe-horned into a lazy plot. Said storyline, if you happen to care, finds our pint-sized spy unintentionally helping Keith Allen's CIA renegade escape with a top-secret mind-control device. So more swiftly than his adolescent mood can swing, Cody finds himself dispatched to London to track down Allen and his English evil scientist. His cover? He's a music prodigy studying at a summer school organised by the evil scientist's wife.

And while it's fun to watch London landmarks refashioned for American cinema - look out for Canary Wharf tube station masquerading as the CIA's top-secret headquarters and the Tate Modern as the evil scientist's laboratories - so tired and incompetent is the rest of the movie that you'll find yourself yearning for the original's slight charms. Anthony Anderson as Cody's buffoon of a sidekick is criminally unfunny; Former S Club 7 popette Hannah Spearrit is cute but uninteresting as Cody's love interest and so bad is Keith Allen's Yank accent that you want to do some serious damage to him from the off. And you've got to pity poor old Frankie Muniz: he doesn't even get the girl.
