Transporter 2 Review
Anyone who saw the original "Transporter" will know exactly what to expect going in to "Transporter 2". Jason Statham stars as Frank Martin, a former US Special Ops soldier who now makes his living 'transporting' goods with no questions asked. Having relocated from France to Miami, Frank's now acting as a driver for the young son of a wealthy family, the head of whom just happens to be heading up the government's war on drugs. So when some gun-totin' baddies come after the lad, Frank finds himself up to his neck in gangsters and assassination plots. Fortunately he has his trusty car and former foe turned ally Tarconi (Francois Berleand) to help him try and save the day.
But the plot really isn't the important thing here because "Transporter 2" is one of those films you know you should hate - but will probably end up thoroughly enjoying. The action is the reason fans will flock to see it and the good news is that Statham and director Louis Leterrier don't disappoint, opting to set their stall out early as Frank dispatches a gang of would-be carjackers before the opening credits roll. And the for the next 87 minutes the screen is alive with punch-ups, car smashes and unlikely escapes, the highlight of which is Frank's innovative way to dispense of a bomb strapped to the chassis of his motor.
Make no mistake, this is a lad's film through and through as, aside for the bone-crunching action, there's also no shortage of eye candy for the post-pub masses including Amber Valletta ("Hitch") and Kate Nauta who makes her debut as the kind of Doctor's assistant you can only dream off. However her talents with a gun may turn them into nightmares.
As dumb as it is enjoyable, "Transporter 2" certainly won't tax too many minds but it doesn't need too 'cos it delivers exactly what we expect.
