Description
Sherlock Holmes and John Watson return in three of their most exciting
adventures:
A Scandal in Belgravia,
The Hounds of Baskerville,
and The Reichenbach Fall.
Becoming embroiled in the complex plans of the dangerous and desirable Irene
Adler, Sherlock needs every one of his remarkable skills to survive and an
invitation to the wilds of Dartmoor brings our terrified heroes face to face
with the supernatural. Meanwhile, Moriarty, still out there in the shadows, is
determined to bring Sherlock down – whatever the cost.
Customer Reviews
Riveting TV - A modern classic!
I got into Sherlock on repeat viewing. Needless to say, I was hooked. Series 1 was great TV. But Series 2 took it to another level.
The first episode, was riveting from the start. A brilliant interpretation of Irene Adler, this was one of the short stories I had read and it was adapted fantastically. The spark between Sherlock and Adler is electrifying. Their first scene, where she completely (or so we think) throws out everything Sherlock uses to deduct character is very clever and each further encounter only raises the level, bring out more depth to his character than we had seen before.
The middle story is the weakest. By that I mean, excellent rather than outstanding. I think it helps that they picked three 'classic' stories for series 2 - no saving the best for last - it was, a brilliant modernised adaption of the classic horror story that is the Hound of the Baskervilles. Russell Tovey, as with many of his roles, adds warmth and humour in his guest starring role and the in depth study to Sherlock and Watson's partnership is the best yet.
Which leads to the marvelous, final episode and the encounter with Moriarty that we have all been waiting on. Talking of the main villain, he is so good in this story it is a shame (SPOILERS) to close this ongoing story so soon. But what a ride. Both he and Watson shine in this story. Martin Freeman should win an award for that final scene. You are constantly analysing everything that happens...there was a point-lets just call it the 'actor' scene in the reporter's flat-when I questioned everything about Sherlock. And just how it will all be resolved...well I have faith in Steven Moffat and Mark Gattiss...but its going to be a long wait!
In summary, some of the best TV the UK has offered up in years...and that's with a lot of good TV (Doctor Who and Being Human to name a few) Three stunning stories. Three stunning adaptions. A stellar cast...if you haven't watched Sherlock yet, WHAT have you been doing?
