Description
Ben Cronin has everything going for him with his many friends, rock-solid girlfriend, promising future and he's also on the way to an athletics scholarship. This all changes when the 'new girl in town', Madison Bell, arrives and sets her sights on Ben and won't take no for an answer...
Swimfan Review
"Swimfan" is a thriller aimed squarely at the teen market, telling as it does the tale of a reformed bad boy turned high school swimming star Ben ("Bring It On" star Jesse Bradford), who jeopardises his perfect relationship with fellow student Amy (Shiri Appleby, star of TV's Rosswell) when he indulges in an aquatic one night stand with sultry new student Madison (Erika Christensen, last seen as the strung out daughter in "Traffic"). Having obviously never seen "Fatal Attraction" Ben is surprised and starts to get worried when Madison forces herself into his life, appearing at his home unannounced, befriending his girlfriend, and bombarding him with emails (Swimfan is in fact Madison's on line identity).
At less than ninety minutes long, the movie - which topped the US charts when released there two weeks ago - to does succeed in creating some sense of menace in the first hour, but unfortunately turns into pure melodrama thereafter, with a final psychotic ten minutes built on a simply dumb premise. Now we all know that 'willing suspension of disbelief' is a crucial part to the enjoyment of any movie, but the lapses in logic contained here will really stretch that willingness to suspend!
