Description
Chuck Noland, a executive for Federal Express, survives a plane crash which kills all of his fellow passengers and crew. He is washed ashore a deserted island where he must learn to fend for himself or perish. Only the thought of his girlfriend, Kelly, keeps his hopes alive.
Cast Away Review
Tom Hanks reunites with "Forrest Gump” director Robert Zemeckis for the harrowing true story of Chuck Noland, a time obsessed Fed Ex employee who spent five years marooned on a tiny desert island, following an horrific air crash. Eventually Noland found a way to return to civilisation but came back a different person, who had to reconnect to a world that had moved on without him.
Revealing the fact that Noland survives will not spoil your enjoyment of this intense movie, which features a great performance from Tom Hanks who is barely off screen for the film’s two and a half hours. I’m sure you’ve heard how production of the film took a six month break, during which time Hanks went on a major diet to portray the emaciated Noland four years on, while Zemeckis and crew shot an entire other movie ("What Lies Beneath”). Hanks’ dedication to his role definitely paid off; with the film taking an astonishing $200M in its first ten days of release in the US. There is already talk of him winning another Oscar, since this is the kind of worthy and highly profitable role that the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts seem to so admire!
