Description

Freddy Krueger is desperate to terrorise the teenagers of Elm Street again but is unable to as the parents have found a way to make the kids forget about him. He enlists the help of serial killer Jason Voorhees to go to Elm Street and dispatch the kids so the town will think that Freddy has returned...

Freddy Vs Jason Review

Those of the bloodthirsty frame of mind fairly screamed with delight when it was announced that Freddy of the "Nightmare on Elm Street" series was to square up to "Friday the 13th" masked killer Jason Vorhees. And scream - and perhaps chuckle - they will when they watch their long-awaited celluloid showdown. The plot - if you can really call it that - finds Freddy Krueger literally wallowing in hell derived of his strength after the inhabitants of Elm Street have systematically erased the memory of his murderous mayhem by drugging potential victims to prevent them from dreaming and therefore rendering impotent the master of nightmares. But you can't keep a good bloodthirsty slayer down as he decides to resurrect madman Jason to do his dirty work for him and dispatches the killing machine to Springwood to start a new reign of terror and bring Freddy's name - and power - back to terrifying life.

And as you can imagine, the gore quota with this one is high - very high. Kicked off with the despatching of a particular abhorrent member of the teenage race, the killing hardly subsides with a particularly spectacular slaughter occurring at a high-school rave. Arteries have not gushed this violently for some time. And that unfortunately is part of the problem: by the time our icons do face up to each other, so much claret has been spilt that the audience is almost immune to it. And after a first rather impressive tussle, the final climactic fight turns out to be a disappointingly straight punch-up. That said, the collected teenage fodder scream nicely and "Destiny's Child" warbler Kelly Rowland gives mouth-to-mouth to Jason - and you can't ask fairer than that.
