Description
"A brutal fusion of angst and action, this mini-epic gives the sword-and-sorcery genre a bleak, brusque new life.” Welcome to the first film in the proposed trilogy with the critically acclamied James Purefoy starring as Solomon Kane.
The movie portrays the origins of the fantasy hero Solomon Kane, based on the character created by pulp fiction writer Robert E Howard. Set in the 17th century we meet Kane fighting against the Ottomans in North Africa, after an encounter with ‘The Reaper’, a Satanic Demon, Kane must now find redemption and save his soul from eternal damnation. Kane returns to England and lives a life of peace, converting to Puritanism, but soon the doings of an evil sorcerer (Malachi) upset his plans and he must take up arms again.
Writer and Director Michael J. Bassett is praised for handling the film "with the same level of commitment Peter Jackson brought to the Lord Of The Rings trilogy.” Co-starring Max von Sydow, Pete Postlethwaite, Rachel Hurd-Wood, Alice Krige, and Mackenzie Crook.

Customer Reviews
James Purefoy takes another large step towards Hollywood stardom
I was pleasantly suprised by this film. I had no previous knowledge of the original stories by Robert E. Howard but this film hits all the right buttons. The story-line is exciting and fast-paced from the start and never lets up til the end.
Brit James Purefoy takes on his first major film lead role and doesn't disappoint, expect to see more of this rising British star in the future.
